Josephine Estey Edwards Thweatt, age 80, of Oklahoma City, OK, died early in June 2022, in the Integris Hospice House of Oklahoma City. She was born in 1941, in Oklahoma City, older daughter of John H. and Virginia Edwards.

She is survived by her husband, the Rev. Richmond F. Thweatt III, of Oklahoma City; a son, Jason F. Thweatt, of Blue Springs, MO; a daughter, Jennifer Harris and three grandsons of Oklahoma City; a sister, Dr. Helen D. E. Lutsch, of Hedemora, Sweden; and a brother, Ellis D. Edwards, of Oklahoma City; two nephews, Eric Edwards of Loveland, CO and John H. Edwards III, of Oklahoma City. She is predeceased by her parents and an older brother.

A life-long member of the Episcopal Church, she served many years as a lay reader, lector, communion visitor, Sunday school teacher, youth camp counselor. She was a 1959 alumnae of Harding High School, attended Randolph-Macon Women’s College, Oklahoma City University and the University of Oklahoma. She was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha Fraternity, the Daughters of the American Revolution, the National Society of Colonial Dames, the Daughters of the King, and the Civil Air Patrol.

She worked as a secretary in the oil industry and as an office manager in community water distribution. She was involved in the communities in which she lived serving on recreation and library boards, several womens’ organizations and assisting in hurricane shelter operations. She was active as a Red Cross blood donor, WSI, CPR and first aid and canoeing instructor in Oklahoma, Michigan, Missouri and Louisiana.

She enjoyed sewing, tatting, embroidery, needle pointing, and reading. For recreation and vacations she enjoyed portage-canoe camping in the Quetico Provincial Park of Canada, visiting U. S. national parks, horseback riding and cross-country skiing. She traveled extensively in the U.S., Europe and the Far East.

Her service of the Burial of the Dead and Holy Eucharist will be in St. Paul’s Episcopal Cathedral, Oklahoma City, at 2:00 pm Saturday, August 6. Her ashes will be scattered in the cathedral’s garden at a future date.

She was a unique lady.  Wish I had lived closer to get to know her more.
