Jan. 15, 1941 - May 25, 2017 OKLAHOMA CITY Joe C. Wheeler, 76, died Thursday, May 25, 2017, following a lengthy illness, at his daughter's home in Oklahoma City. He was surrounded by his loving family. Joe is survived by his wife, Alma, of the home. Joe and Alma were happily married for 56 years. He is also survived by his children, Steve Wheeler & wife Ronda, of Weatherford, OK; and Jennifer Seibel, of OKC; five grandchildren, Tanner Wheeler, Korey Wheeler & wife Loryn, and Ryan, Adam, and Luke Seibel. Other survivors include sister, Lucy Bo Wheeler-Shields; brother, Don Wheeler; and numerous nieces and nephews. Joe was born Jan. 15, 1941, in Kansas City, MO to J. Clyde Wheeler and Eura Gladys Whitt Wheeler. Joe grew up in OKC. After graduating from Harding High School in 1959, he attended Phillips University and OCU. He met his wife, Alma, and they were married by his father, Dr. J. Clyde Wheeler, in 1962 at Crown Heights Christian Church. Joe worked as a claims adjuster for 12 years and then worked for DHS as a risk manager until 1996, when he was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor which he miraculously survived. Joe was a loving husband, father and grandfather who will be greatly missed. He enjoyed bowling, fishing, golfing, playing aggravation (a marble game) and cards (mostly Canasta). He was an avid Sooners fan. He especially loved spending time with family. Joe was a member of New Covenant Christian Church for 20-plus years. The family would like to thank the many loving and compassionate caregivers over the years. Visitation will be Tuesday, May 30, 2017, 10 a.m. - 9 p.m. with the family being there to welcome loved ones 6-8 p.m. at Mercer-Adams Funeral Home, 3925 N. Asbury, Bethany, OK. A Funeral to celebrate Joe's life will be held Wednesday, May 31 at 2 p.m. at New Covenant Christian Church, 12000 N. Rockwell, Oklahoma City.
